The Chief Information Officer provides leadership to, and management of, the Information Systems department and sets the long-term vision for the Firm’s information-based functions and technology. He or she will guide the development, implementation, training, and use of technology in meeting Firm and client needs. He or she will also be responsible for the Firms Cyber Security and Data Privacy needs. This includes staying abreast of new technologies and product developments, understanding client and user needs, formulating practical solutions, setting multi-year strategic plans for the Firm’s technology and use of information, and working with practice groups to increase the effectiveness of their use of information and technology. The CIO will report to the Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for hiring, managing, and developing the IS staff of approximately 30 people.
The CIO will also be required to make operational decisions daily regarding prioritization of work, resource allocation, negotiating purchases and service contracts with vendors, as well as set and manage both capital and expense budgets.
• One of the primary functions of the CIO is to deliver business solutions that will help increase revenue and increase the bottom line. CIO will need to put together a technology strategy to support the legal functions in the firm. • . Ensure that the firm has a robust and comprehensive Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BC) program in place. • Enable effective use of the Firm’s systems through the development and maintenance of a comprehensive training program for all new technologies as well as refresher training on existing technologies. • Lead the firms Cyber Security & Data Privacy initiatives to ensure the firm’s and client data is protected. • Must be able to develop, justify, and manage an operating expense budget of approximately $6M and a variable capital budget of 1.5 to 2.0M a year. • Must be able to develop an annual capital budget consisting of vetted and approved capital projects and implementation/training plans. Must have a very good understanding of budget management processes, cash flow, and ability to negotiate payment plans without delaying project timelines. Continuously strive to increase the Firm’s effectiveness through the use of information technologies, while simultaneously reducing costs. • Work with the IT Director and IT Managers to implement capacity planning standards to ensure the systems can support the firms growth. Create the firms technology strategy and a roadmap to meet the strategy goals. Must communicate technology plans and solutions Firm-wide, building consensus and support as needed. • Lead the Firms Information Governance & Information Management initiatives. • Lead the Firms Knowledge Management initiative. • Continuously improve existing solutions through either hardware or software upgrades, as needed, or migration to new solutions if appropriate. • Align the Firm’s technology and communications infrastructure with the Firm’s strategic and business goals by interfacing with firm leadership on a regular basis • Work the Director of IT to develop, implement, and maintain best practices for the Firm’s data center operations to minimize downtime, and ensure all systems operate at peak efficiency. • Building effective teams; Accountability and standards; performance management-related • Developing managers and leaders; succession planning • Work with the IT support manager to ensure proper end-user SLAs are supporting the legal functions in the firm.
• Must have 15 years of progressive experience in Information Technologies, with a minimum of 10 in a leadership role. Strongly prefer 5 years or more in an executive leadership role with demonstrated ability to think strategically and build/implement strategic plans. • Must have legal industry experience with Cyber Security & Data Privacy best practices, and cyber breach incident response programs. Must be very familiar with the NIST 800-53 and ISO 27k1 framework. Experience implementing ISO 27001 certification is are plus. • Must be able comfortable speaking in front of large audiences and lead town hall discussions. • Must have achieved a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, preferably in Computer Science or a Managerial Science. • Graduate degree from an accredited university strongly preferred.
