The Law Office of Arturo Jimenez P.C., a small, fast-paced and upbeat immigration law office in its 20th year in Denver is hiring a qualified full-time, English-Spanish bi-literate/bilingual Immigration Paralegal Specialist with a minimum of two-years’ experience who will be responsible for carrying out administrative tasks and provide general support to the two staff attorneys in the immigration court context. The Immigration Paralegal Specialist will start work on cases such as Asylum, Cancellation of Removal, Family-based, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, VAWA and U Visa cases by April 15, 2018. Duties will include:
Calendaring Court dates, internal and court imposed filing deadlines
Meeting with court clients to receive and create documentary evidence in preparation for court submission
Performing background checks for clients, including FBI fingerprint requests, and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to the Department of Homeland Security, Office of Refugee Resettlement, and Customs and Border Protection
Organize and maintain documents in a paper or electronic filing systems
Gather and arrange evidence and other legal documents for attorney review and case preparation
Translate affidavits and other formal statements that may be used as evidence in court
Prepare and File exhibits, briefs, appeals and other legal documents with the court and/or opposing counsel
Perform general administrative tasks such as photocopying, filing, faxing, scanning, opening and closing files
The applications must work full-time, be English-Spanish bi-literate/bilingual with a minimum of two-years’ experience in carrying out administrative tasks and provide general support to the at least two staff attorneys in the immigration court context.
The ideal candidate for this position has a strong work ethic, great oral and written communication skills, sense of humor, exceptional problem solving skills and is comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic workplace. Preference will be those who have worked with victims of crime. Proven working experience in the immigration field as a legal assistant, legal secretary and familiarity with law, legal procedures and protocols, and the immigration court system is a must.
