The NYCT Department of Law provides effective legal representation in both litigation and transactional matters and provides in-house counseling to clients. The Department of Law is currently seeking an Executive Agency Counsel for the Labor & Employment Unit.
The Executive Agency Counsel, acting with broad independence, will provide representation for NYCT and affiliated agencies regarding complex and significant litigation matters before federal and state courts and various administrative agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, State Division of Human Rights and State Public Employment Relations Board. Additional responsibilities include providing guidance to senior agency management and affected departments concerning a wide range of issues relating to labor and personnel policies and civil rights matters.
The successful candidate will have significant experience in all aspects of federal and state litigation, from the pleading stage, through discovery (including taking and defending depositions), trial, and appeal. In addition, the successful candidate will have significant experience handling labor, employment, and civil rights matters. Strong communication skills are required. The candidate must have a proven ability to handle an extensive docket of cases and be able to work collaboratively with operating and support departments regarding changes to policies, procedures, and practices.
Education and Experience Requirements:
A law degree and admission to the Bar of the State of New York.
In addition, a minimum of four (4) years of significant litigation or other relevant experience.
Candidates who possess five (5) or more years of significant litigation or other relevant experience may qualify for the highest level within this title.
