The Application Development Specialist will be responsible for the development and technical support of law firm specific business applications—both internally developed and off the shelf. The specialist will be a creative/innovative doer that’s well versed in current business development tools, such as SharePoint Power Apps, C#, or equivalent.
Specialist must be able to creatively solve business problems with technology. The specialist should possess a combination of skills that combine out of the box solutions (e.g.,SharePoint and legal specific applications—listed under requirements) with light development (power apps, C# or equivalent coding languages) to solve business problems related to the practice and the business of law.
In addition to development, and support of off the shelf and custom developed applications, the specialist will be adept at SSRS report development/support, as well as SSIS and related ETL operations.
Specialist will manage the majority of support calls from Bracewell users – including software setup, trouble-shooting, maintenance, and management of issues that have been escalated to a vendor.
Specialist will be the internal advocate for systems, including: monitoring usage, initiating training, advancement/communication of new features, and innovative application usage to improve business process.
Specialist will assist in determining reporting and presentation areas that support the law firm business and provide the most useful information to front-end users.
Help CIO and Director, Knowledge Management develop innovative technology solutions.
Monitor systems, support end users through day to day functional support, manage all open support tickets/issues, and drive and deliver new features to existing department and practice specific applications.
Assist in providing SharePoint surfaced solutions related to HR, Marketing, Operations, Attorney Employment, Accounting and IT departments – some examples include paid time off application, attorney experience tracking, client disengagement, and employee onboarding/departure system.
Meet with business units to build relationships, deliver solutions, and update and communicate support issues. Maintain an active interest in the business of the firm as well as practice specific needs. Work and communicate seamlessly between technical support and business process support.
Work closely with the data group, user services and network infrastructure to integrate systems, communicate technical information and generally create tight support system through documentation, and verbal interaction.
Work with business units to identify and correct issues related to systems. E.g., where bad data exists, develop a plan and process to remediate through manual updates, internally developed scripts, and vendor led automated “repairs”.
Minimum 3 years of specific relatable business application development required—with law firm experience highly preferred.
4 year degree in MIS, Technology, Business or relatable undergraduate studies required.
Working knowledge and/or familiarity with legal specific applications. Some examples include: IntApp new business intake/conflicts, Integration Builder, WallBuilder, IntApp Time, Elite financial systems, Sharepoint, UltiPro, OpenText, Compulaw, InproTech, Sydney, Excelerate, Chrome River, InterAction or equivalents. Familiarity with these (or equivalent) apps includes API, data structures, security, front and back office UX, and general user experience.
Software support experience including: business requirements gathering, hardware/software evaluation and implementation, security and user access management, and performance tuning experience.
Must be able to maintain end to end software support of business systems, which includes familiarity with maintenance processes, user interfaces (front-end), and technical (back-end) architecture necessary to successfully support business applications.
Good communicator, and outside the box thinker who is dependable, and wants to grow the position beyond ‘keeping the lights on’, e.g. takes an interest in how the system is used to solve business problems and how to best support those that rely on the business application.
Demonstrated ability and experience as a self-starter who can interface with business users, and technical staff with equal effectiveness. Must be service oriented and manage work with a sense of urgency.
