The Human Resource Manager provides guidance and expertise in a wide variety of HR disciplines across the Americas region. The role oversees a team of HR professionals and is responsible for Business Services recruitment, integration, employment matters, performance management, compensation, policies, compliance, employee relations and counselling and HR best practices. The role is highly visible in the Americas region and is a valued and effective business partner to both lawyers and Business Services management and employees. The role collaborates with other members of the global HR team in similar roles and on special projects.
Manage a team of HR professionals with varying generalist duties to deliver HR services to the Americas region.
Offer managers guidance in a variety of HR areas including staff recruitment, new hire compensation, employee relations, performance management, career development, market adjustments, retention initiatives and annual salary and bonus review administration.
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal clients; act as a trusted advisor and value-add member of the management team.
Act as an effective partner throughout the employee life cycle; deliver lawyer orientation and continuously assess and enhance the overall orientation and new joiner experience; conduct lawyer/paralegal exit interviews and identify patterns related to attrition.
Work closely with management and employees on employee relations matters by conducting investigations and overseeing issues to successful resolution; liaise with the employee assistance program provider on matters as needed.
Provide support to colleagues at all levels regarding HR-related matters including interpretation of HR policies; maintain a deep understanding of such policies and how they may be interrelated.
Develop a deep understanding of Business Services talent; advise managers on the annual US and SP performance management process, including overseeing the new joiner and annual performance review processes, and help to identify and support key contributors in the NY/DC offices.
Participate in appraisal discussions for first-year law clerks through third year associates, supporting partners and senior associates on messaging and acting as a resource for law clerks/associates.
In conjunction with the HR Systems team, support the Firm’s compensation planning and administration process for Business Services; monitor market developments and provide strategic counsel.
Advise on handling of performance issues; conduct separation meetings and prepare separation packages as needed.
Partner with managers to develop and maintain accurate job descriptions for Business Services roles; conduct FLSA and role mapping reviews with managers as needed.
Stay abreast of changes in workplace best practices and ensure compliance with required labor law postings and Federal/New York State/New York City/DC labor laws, including Department of Labor (DOL) directives for EEO, FLSA, and OFCCP requirements. Annual review of the Firm's EEO and other relevant policies; apply and recommend updates to the policies, procedures and forms based on former and acquired knowledge. Maintain documentation of all HR policy changes.
Develop and maintain deep knowledge of affirmative action plan documents and federal contractor employment-related requirements.
Liaise with external statistician and outside counsel regarding preparation of annual affirmative action plan documents.
Keep abreast of industry and HR trends affecting the business.
Continuously assess the effectiveness of HR programs and resources, making enhancements as needed.
Develop and deliver presentations on various HR topics.
Oversee employee recognition programs and annual length of service event; continuously consider possibilities for improvement.
Oversee briefing series for managers covering management and leadership topics; provide consultation to Professional Development on business skills training needs among Business Services.
Oversee backup care benefit, reviewing utilization and service levels and enhancing benefit as needed to best support the population.
Draft annual holiday schedule for US offices.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive human resources experience in a professional services organization within multiple disciplines, including employee relations, recruitment, compliance, performance management and compensation administration.
Prior experience managing a team of professionals, including the ability to manage, coach and develop others.
Ability to effectively apply knowledge of Federal, State and local employment laws and regulations.
Ability to exercise the utmost sense of confidentiality and sense of urgency.
Ability to handle sensitive matters with tact and diplomacy.
Strength of character, ethics, commitment and reliability.
Proven track record of successfully handling employee relations issues.
Ability to prioritize multiple projects and responsibilities and consistently deliver high quality results in a timely manner.

Ability to travel to other offices in Americas region as needed (infrequent).
Must be independently legally authorized to work in the United States.
Minimum of Bachelor's degree.
Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) Certification or similar.
Prior experience working for a federal contractor.
