Associate/Sr. Associate Counsel – Real Estate (WDR-00010950)
The Office of University Counsel provides legal representation and advice to Cornell University on a broad range of legal issues including business transactions, compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, government grants and contracts, litigation, labor and employment, faculty and student issues, privacy, intellectual property, technology transfer, information technology law, safety and environmental law, health law, real estate, international issues, non-profit and tax matters. The office represents the university in litigation and before regulatory agencies, as well as advising on legal exposures and engaging in preventive lawyering, including educational programs. All attorneys are expected to collaborate effectively to address the legal needs of Cornell University.
The Office of University Counsel seeks an attorney to support a wide-range of real estate law needs including complex P3 development projects; real property acquisitions and sales (including gift properties); real property tax exemptions; commercial and residential leasing (including ground leasing); campus housing issues, facility use agreements; telecommunication licensing agreements, SNDAs, and easements. This position will include primary responsibility for P3, industry co-location and real property legal issues related to Cornell's New York City Tech Campus. Candidates also should be familiar with private use and private benefit limitations, commercial contracts, grant agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.
Familiarity with commercial lending and experience working with relevant NYC regulatory or development agencies is desirable. The attorney will address other legal matters as directed by the University Counsel.
This position will be filled at the Associate or Senior Associate University Counsel level, depending on years of practice and experience.
