The CTO is responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of the law firm’s information technology infrastructure, all third party vendor relationships providing information technology services to the law firm, and support of the Firm’s attorneys to effectively and efficiently leverage technology in their respective practices. The CTO is responsible for planning, managing and supporting all aspects of information technology for each of the firm’s offices in the Southern United States and Washington, D.C. Travel to the firm’s offices required. The CTO will work closely with the Firm’s Technology Committee.
The CTO provides firm-wide leadership and vision for technology procurement and infrastructure development to enable the successful operation of the law firm. The CTO is responsible for evaluating existing and future technology needs, recommending technology solutions, conducting research and case studies on leading edge technologies, making determinations on the probability of successful implementation, working internally to improve efficiency and effectiveness, and strategically leveraging technology to the firm’s competitive advantage.
Using an active and practical approach, the CTO will direct all employees in IT to attain the goals established in the firm’s strategic plan. Therefore, it is critical that the CTO understand how lawyers and support staff communicate and work with technology to serve client needs in order to make appropriate technology related recommendations to the firm’s Chief Operating Officer and to the Firm’s Technology Committee.
Ability to actively communicate, inspire and motivate all levels of staff. Accordingly, high-level communication and project management skills are required.
Develop, review, test, and certify all back-up and disaster recovery procedures and plans to ensure business continuity.
Develop and facilitate a comprehensive training program for technology staff to ensure that the staff can competently operate, maintain and upgrade all necessary systems.
Manage a staff of seventeen including seven manager/supervisor level direct reports in the technology department located across multiple offices to provide regular review and evaluation of performance levels, and to make recommendations regarding staffing including recommendations on disciplinary action and termination if necessary.
Education and Experience:
An undergraduate degree in computer science or related field from an accredited university. An advanced degree and other recognized certifications are highly desirable. Prior experience in networking infrastructure and architecture, software development, information security highly desirable.
Fifteen years’ experience in positions of increasing responsibility in information systems, with at least five years in a senior level managerial role in a multi-site environment. Multi-office law firm experience preferred.
Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.

This position requires sitting for long periods of time while operating a computer. At times, employees are required to work in excess of the normal work schedule. Employees in this position must be mobile, have the ability to bend, crawl, kneel, lift overhead and have ability to lift and carry equipment weighing approximately 50 lbs. Frequent travel is required and weekend work may be required.
