Harmon, Curran, Spielberg & Eisenberg, LLP, a law firm in Washington, DC serving the nonprofit public interest community, is seeking a senior-level attorney to join our team in a Senior Associate or Of Counsel role. The position will ideally be based in our downtown Washington, DC office but consideration will be given to candidates who are interested in some remote work.
The attorneys at Harmon Curran help progressive nonprofit organizations and the funders and individuals that support them to address the full scope of legal issues that they most commonly confront. These include:
Seeking and maintaining tax exemption
Relationships among affiliated organizations such as 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4) and 527 organizations
Lobbying and political campaign activities
Contract and lease review and drafting
Legal issues related to the Internet and other electronic media
Special rules governing private foundations
Campaign finance law
Fundraising contracts and compliance with state and federal laws
Trademark and copyright questions
Employment law, including
anti-discrimination law compliance,
wage and hour issues,
workplace harassment prevention,
workplace policy advice, and
guidance on discipline and separations
Candidates will work and advise on the exempt organization matters that comprise the firm’s work. The ideal candidate will have at least 7 years of experience in EO tax and election law; candidates without significant experience in the EO practice area will not be considered. Experience or interest in employment law is welcome.
Qualified candidates will be motivated self-starters with strong academic credentials, excellent writing and communication skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a group, strong attention to detail and the ability to learn quickly. Candidates must be a member of the Bar.
