The Associate General Counsel ('AGC') serves as a key member of the Legal Services Department assisting the EVP/Chief Legal/Human Resources office with important corporate, transactional, contractual and medical staff legal matters. The AGC manages the relationships with various external counsel.
Provides legal advice and counsel in diverse matters affecting the day-to-day activities of the Carle organization by assisting, advising, investigating, researching and resolving legal matters.
Leads various legal projects and negotiates workable solutions to complex and sensitive legal issues.
Advises on major contracts and transactions, including business and physician agreements, medical staff matters, graduate medical education and outside counsel management.
Manages contract review and workflow process and ensures timely review and approval of contracts.
Assists in the efficient use, management and evaluation of outside counsel consistent with budgetary projections.
Advises Carle leaders on new developments in the law and proactively identifies problem areas for department leaders to minimize risks.
Assists in corporate and Board of Trustees matters including corporate structure and corporate filing activities and preparation for various Board and Committee meetings.
Interfaces with Medical Directors and medical staff leadership on various provider-related matters.
Serves as representative of the Legal Services Department on the Medical Executive Committee, Credentials Committee, Executive Compliance Committee and other committees as appropriate.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Juris Doctorate
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS License to practice law Illinois. Juris Doctorate degree from ABA-accredited law school with emphasis in healthcare law.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Five (5) years of healthcare legal/regulatory experience in a law firm or in-house setting.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work well in team environment; organized and detail oriented. Analytical with an ability to advise on and propose solutions to complex projects.
