The Office of the Federal Defender for the Eastern District of Missouri has openings for Assistant Federal Defenders. The office operates under authority of the Criminal Justice Act, 18 U.S.C. § 3006A, to provide legal services of the highest quality to indigent persons in federal criminal cases. The main office is located in Saint Louis, Missouri with a branch office in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. As many as three positions may be filled from this announcement, two in the Saint Louis office and one in the Cape Girardeau office. Applicants must have the ability to immediately undertake the defense of major criminal cases in the United States District Court, as well as in the Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school and an active member in good standing of the bar in any state, territory or possession. Applicants must have excellent writing, legal research and advocacy skills. A reputation for integrity and a commitment to the representation of those unable to afford counsel are required qualities. Fluent Spanish is a plus. An Assistant Federal Defender may not engage in the private practice of law. |
