The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator's primary responsibility is to recruit, engage and retain volunteers in the Justice Campaign network, with the principal goal of placing them with volunteer opportunities and having them become repeat, active participants in the Campaign. The Coordinator will be responsible for timely responding to volunteer inquiries, matching attorney and non-attorney volunteers with appropriate opportunities (including both case work and advocacy opportunities), and following through with Campaign placement protocols.
The Coordinator will also focus on maintaining or increasing the engagement of volunteers with the Campaign. The Coordinator will interact with non-lawyer volunteers (like interpreters and mental health professionals) and supporters without the necessary skills to assist case work. As part of the workload for this position, the Coordinator will regularly assess the strength and readiness of the interpreter volunteer pool.
Given the Coordinator's day-to-day work with the volunteer pool, this position will be expected to provide significant input on the Campaign's volunteer engagement strategy and help to execute it, communicating regularly with volunteers and tracking and reporting on volunteer engagement.
The Coordinator will also serve as an ambassador for the Campaign, and will regularly liaise with funders and other stakeholders in our work.

4-5 years of experience successfully building capacity through strategic volunteer engagement, ideally including within the legal community.
The ideal candidate will have familiarity with immigration detention and the immigration enforcement system, either through work or lived experience.
Alternately, we encourage applicants with familiar with the criminal justice and enforcement system, either through work or lived experience.
Essential Job Functions
Interface with lawyers, advocates, and other volunteers (email, phone and online); regularly and timely respond to volunteer inquiries about volunteering with the Campaign and directing them to appropriate staff for questions beyond volunteering.
Actively seek out attorney volunteers for cases awaiting placement and match with supporting non-attorney volunteers, when needed, and in coordination with Campaign Fellows and other pro bono coordination staff.
Properly orient placed volunteers and set expectations of their participation across Campaign partner sites.
Work with Pro Bono Coordination team and Legal Support Team to ensure materials and placement processes are accurate and updated as needed.
Work with other staff to engage attorney (non-law firm associates) and non-attorney volunteers, including conducting assessments of current volunteers and the nature of their interest and ability to volunteer.
Track and maintain active and current volunteer rosters (for non-attorneys and non-firm associates) in our database.
Provide input to the Campaign's Communication Specialist to communicate with non-firm volunteers regularly in a targeted fashion.
Perform administrative/clerical tasks, as needed, to help connect volunteers with the appropriate opportunities and resources.
Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned.
