The Pennsylvania State University's Office of General Counsel is continuing to expand the breadth and depth of the legal services it provides to the University. We are seeking to hire highly qualified attorneys who bring a wide range of experience and background. The Assistant or Associate General Counsel position described in this posting will have primary responsibility for legal issues related to research, including federal, private, and other sponsored grants and contracts, and research compliance. Depending on background and need, the successful candidate may also have some responsibility for intellectual property, technology transfer, relationships with industry, licensing of technology, and related matters. The successful candidate may also advise on the full range of other issues that the University faces. The position includes responsibilities for all campuses of the University, Penn State Health, The Penn State Research Foundation, and other Penn State related entities.
This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a J.D. or L.L.B. from an ABA-accredited law school or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher-level jobs.
Applicants must be admitted to the practice of law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or be eligible for prompt admission. The successful candidate must also demonstrate the highest level of integrity and professionalism, possess superior communication skills, have demonstrated ability to work in a collegial and professional manner with peers and clients, and have a strong interest in working in the Penn State Office of the General Counsel.
