SIFMA – Vice President, Asset Management Group
SIFMA’s Asset Management Group (AMG) is looking for a Vice President reporting to the Managing Director and Associate General Counsel, AMG. You must demonstrate a high degree of drive, initiative, and autonomy, as well as a familiarity with financial services and investment fund regulation – more specifically SEC and CFTC regulation. You will be expected to assess applicable regulatory initiatives against business drivers, organize SIFMA AMG members in position formulation, and clearly articulate such position on member calls, comment letters, and in meetings with regulators and legislators.
You will be a key part of our advocacy efforts with both regulators and policy makers globally. You will be a valued contributor to a high-functioning team which advances public policy positions on behalf of the asset management industry. You will bring strong networks in government and/or industry and have experience in financial services policy and regulation covering capital markets and funds management.
This job may be located in Washington, D.C. or New York City, with a preference for Washington, D.C.
Responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with SIFMA staff globally to develop and advance SIFMA’s work on behalf of the global financial services industry;
- Engage with member specialists to be familiar with business drivers and regulatory priorities;
- Stay abreast of applicable financial services and investment fund regulatory developments;
- Coordinate SIFMA AMG’s organization related to specific regulatory initiatives;
- Establish and deepen relationships with select policymakers, regulators and their staff, and lead engagement, submissions, and presentations on our key issues;
- Strategically engage with appropriate industry bodies, external stakeholders, consultants, and others to promote SIFMA AMG’s public policy positions.
- Respond promptly to member questions and concerns on regulatory issues;
- Draft email updates and briefing notes for members and SIFMA colleagues;
- Draft analysis and advocacy materials, including comment letters, talking points, and educational materials.
Qualifications:
- Relevant graduate degree in economics, finance, public policy or law preferred;
- Minimum 3-5 years of financial services or relevant legal experience, demonstrating expertise in public policy administration, government relations, industry bodies and/or advocacy with State or Federal governments or government agencies;
- Understanding of the U.S. capital markets and their regulatory structure is necessary, along with the strong interest and ability in developing expertise in applicable regulatory and other public policy issues;
- Developed policymaker and regulator networks and demonstrated experience in dealing with public sector stakeholders to drive constructive engagement and positive outcomes;
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to flex one’s communication style as appropriate for the intended audience;
- Advanced project management skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects on tight deadlines;
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively within teams;
- An analytical and strategic mindset to understand and advance the legal & regulatory issues affecting the industry with excellent communication, relationship management, and diplomacy skills;
- Adherence to the highest level of professionalism and an ability to interact and build rapport with senior businesspeople and regulators.
