Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, the largest gun violence prevention advocacy group in the country, is seeking a passionate, dedicated professional to join our team as a Senior Associate General Counsel with a focus in advocacy and political law.  This position is part of the Office of the General Counsel (“OGC”) Department of Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund, and Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund (“Everytown”). Reporting to the General Counsel, the Senior Associate General Counsel will provide legal and risk management advice and guidance to a major fast-paced, mission-driven nonprofit family of organizations.

We’re looking for a flexible problem solver with experience in advocacy and political law to join our team.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Ensure that Everytown conducts its business in compliance with all applicable laws, standards, and practices, including federal and state campaign finance laws, lobbying disclosure requirements, gift and ethics rules, and tax laws governing exempt organizations, including the operation of 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and 527 organizations.
• Provide regular advice and counsel to staff on programs, and review advertisements, fundraising appeals, and other public messaging for compliance with the above.
• Oversee large portions of political law and compliance programs, including supervising compliance and reporting manager, and overseeing work of outside counsel.
• Draft and negotiate agreements, including grants and consulting agreements, particularly as relate to electoral programs.
• Provide counsel and manage projects to improve nonprofit operations, including working closely with finance and HR divisions to create efficient policies, procedures and training programs.
• Develop and deliver guidelines, trainings, and toolkits for staff and volunteers regarding lobbying and political campaign activities, intellectual property, nonprofit tax law, and other issues relevant to tax exempt organizations.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school.
• Bar Admission: Admitted to practice in New York or Washington, D.C.
• Legal Experience: At least five years of legal experience and expertise in U.S. campaign finance laws and not-for-profit corporate and tax matters required. Experience as in-house counsel or as an attorney for a relevant regulator is a plus.
