Assistant Professor - Communications Law - #077288
The Communications Department at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in the area of communications law beginning in fall 2024. A Ph.D. or J.D. is required; strong ABDs will be considered. Candidates with experience in the practice of communications law are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will have a strong track record, or demonstrate a promise of a strong trajectory of scholarship, in research or policy development regarding any area of communications law, either in the US and/or internationally.
The faculty member will teach five courses in an academic year. Successful candidates will demonstrate an interest in working with a diverse group of students from the undergraduate to the doctoral level. At the undergraduate level, we regularly offer specific courses on communications law for journalism students; for public relations and advertising students; and for students in the television, radio, and film industries. At the graduate level we regularly offer courses on media law for our professionally oriented master’s students. The ideal candidate should feel comfortable teaching any of these classes. In addition, opportunities may be available for the successful candidates to teach in areas consistent with their experiences.
Successful candidates should expect a variety of service duties, including academic and career advising of undergraduate and graduate students; department, school and university committee service; and service to the field.
