About the College
The School of Law has approximately 450 students and 41 full-time faculty members. The School of Law is an integral part of the University and offers a robust curriculum including nine clinics and ten dual-degree programs. The School of Law has a strong student-centered focus and is committed to a practical education designed to produce skilled, knowledgeable graduates.
Position Description:
The School of Law at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Professor of Law position with a primary focus on teaching and administering the Criminal Defense Clinic, beginning in Fall 2027. The position is open to both entry-level candidates and candidates who are on the tenure-track or tenured at another school.

Required Qualifications:
In line with TTU’s strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience or demonstrated potential for working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.
The required qualifications for candidates are as follows:
Holds a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school or a J.D. equivalent from a recognized international institution.
Licensed by the Texas Supreme Court and a member of the State Bar of Texas on active status and in good standing who has practiced law in Texas for three or more years, or an active member in good standing of the bar of another state in good standing who has practiced at least three years.
Demonstrates interest in and commitment to teaching as well as supervising students in a criminal defense clinical setting.
Demonstrates interest in and commitment to producing impactful legal scholarship.
Has a record of, or strong commitment to, service within legal education, the legal profession, or the broader public, including institutional, community, or professional service.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
A demonstrated record of effective teaching.
An established record of scholarly publications.
Experience supervising students in a law school clinical program and/or supervising law students or lawyers in practice;
A commitment to, and/or demonstrated experience in, supporting and engaging students from a broad range of backgrounds, including first-generation college or law students.
Other experience as a practicing attorney and/or judicial clerk, particularly in areas relevant to the teaching and scholarship expectations of the position.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff in a collegial academic environment.
Other academic experience—such as additional degrees or leadership roles—that may enhance contributions to teaching, scholarship, or service.
